So, Joshua said to the Israelites: “How long will you wait before you begin to take possession of the land that the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has given you? Joshua 18:3 (NIV)
Joshua 18:3 is a pivotal verse in the book of Joshua, where Joshua addresses the Israelites about the urgency of taking possession of the land promised by God. The verse serves as a call to action, urging the Israelites to stop procrastinating and take possession of the land that God has given them. It reflects a broader spiritual truth that believers must not delay in pursuing what God has set before them. The verse is situated in a critical moment in the story of the Israelites, after they had conquered much of Canaan and were ready to divide the land among the tribes. It highlights the importance of claiming one's God-given rights and responsibilities.
Christians can be lukewarm also. We accepted Christ, we go to church on Sunday... we are good. God does not want lukewarm Christians. In Revelations 3:15-15 Jesus says, "I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth." Just like the procrastinating Israelites, God calls Christians to action. James 1:22 says, "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." So, what does God say. He says, we are to love one another, which is spreading kindness and compassion in our daily actions. He calls us to serve others by volunteering with humility and selflessness, which expresses His love in action. God wants you to trust in His guidance and follow His call. As believers we are encouraged to trust in his plan and use the talents He gave us for His purpose.
Choose to follow Gods' call to action. Use the gifts he gave you to bring others to heaven. Volunteer at church, start a bible study, feed the homeless, help someone in recovery, be there for someone in need, and let people know the kindness and love of our Jesus who saves us from eternal death. God has given us so much, and now is time to claim our God-given rights and responsibilities.
